Day Five
Last day and I'm a little upset, i have enjoyed my time working, it just seems right. But today everything changes the office is busy and everyone is working hard to meet deadlines.
I got to see how the paper is actually made up - proofing, editing, changing, putting it into the layout. Its all hands on deck and a very interesting experience not only do these people write but they do all this too. At the end it all gets sent to sub editors who are there purely to make sure everything is perfect before the paper is sent to print.
They finished on time, it was a bit stressful and lunch was missed or taken at your desk, everyone helped everyone, it was a case of it must be done now!
But after all the stress and lots and lots of swearing it got done.
And they all made a start on next weeks paper, or even made plans for a few weeks in advance and i was sent home, welcome back at any time.

Day Four
Ok the plan for today involved something a bit more journalistic, interviews! it may only be with the public but its where everyone has to start in this business the better you get the more famous your interviewees become.
So me and the guy in charge of pictures and these public opinions piece took to the street armed with camera and Dictaphone as well a couple of questions and took on the public.
It went quite well i learned a lot about interviewing skills and how to get an answer out of people because all they have to agree with you then you have something to say.
I also learned a lot about the business and what coarse to sit and how the industry is changing just by talking.
Sitting in the office with my headphones in listening back on the interviews and writing them up really made me feel like i was doing the job. It felt professional and right and it made up my mind - This is what i want to do with my life.

Day Three
Today is the half way point, I'm shattered i wont lie, being up at 7 and not getting home till 7 is getting to me, and didn't feel well today either to the point where i was almost throwing up in the bathroom. Not good. But i wasn't going to let that stop me.
Back to work and a new task, finding all pantomimes/Christmas shows in Scotland, where they are and a little bit about them, this was hard and took most of today and some of Thursday but I got there - 50 venues 55 shows plus detail, dates and boxoffice numbers. I would say that is a job well done.
These may not seem like big tasks or proper journalism but you need to start somewhere.

Day Two
So i started on my first task today, yesterday was mainly about settling in and seeing how things work, there are two more writers in today, and the office will just get busier as the week goes on. I sat for hours yesterday looking through the newspapers and continued my research today by looking online to see if there were any interesting yet unusual news stories going on. I then took a note of these adding to them where i found them and a little bit of detail about them. Later on in the day i turned these into short paragraphs that could possibly be used by the paper.
It was great to just sit and watch the others work, seeing the way they did interviews over the phone if a meeting couldn't be arranged. I mean they don't talk to the most famous people but the amount of name dropping that went on, would be great to be like that.
Anyway work done today - research and short paragraphs. Its always a good start.

Day One
The office is a riot. Piles of books and papers and cds and magazines all over the place, and i mean all over the place. On shelfs on the desks, just piles on the floor. But its fantastic, such an atmosphere, its just a working environment.
Ended up getting there early so just sat and read a few of the papers from a pile. The editor turns up, and he is Irish!! I love the Irish accent, could just sit and listen to it all day. And he is so passionate about his work. Passionate in a sweary sort of way. But it's totally brilliant.
Been giving a very small pice to do for then a couple of paragraphs to do, and maybe even a wee review later on the week.
Even just seeing how people work, how the office goes works its so interesting.
Ok so its only day one, but so far so good.
I might even get to shadow a member of the design team, as they are redesigning the paper.
It seems a promising week.

The point of this.
So when I'm older I want to go into the media, writing, editing, photography, filming, radio. I'm not overly botherd. But I decided before I set my heart on it and make all my uni aplications I should really make sure that it is what I want to do. Just a rough idea of at least one apect of it will do.
So starting on the 18th I have myself a work placement with a newspaper to see what things are like.
Now he plan is to blog my weeks experiances but I'm working 10 till 530 and need t add traveling ontop of that so have a feeling I could be a tad sleepy. But i promise I will let you all in on what happens even if it has to wait till the week after.
I am really looking forward to it tho =)
